Hypothyroidism is a condition in which your thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough of certain crucial hormones. If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism, please see your doctor to get tested; blood tests can help you measure your thyroid hormone (i.e. T4 or T3) level along with TSH (Thyroid-stimulating Hormone). If untreated over time, hypothyroidism can cause health issues, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility, etc.

Some of the major signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism are:

  • Fatigue
  • Impaired memory
  • Weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Puffy face
  • Hoarseness
  • Constipation
  • For women, heavier than normal or irregular menstrual period

These are some of the daily tasks you could manage to cope with hypothyroidism:

  1. To manage your weight, be mindful of your calorie intake
  2. To avoid constipation, take foods with lots of fibers
  3. Keep yourself hydrated
  4. If your body lacks in iodine level, please include foods with high iodine level in your diet
  5. Maintain a proper level of exercise
