Infertility and Stress

When you are under stress, it causes your heart to work harder and makes it more difficult for the blood to flow properly. In addition, research shows that the flow of blood slows down when individuals are stressed or frightened and that people suffering from acute anxiety disorders are at greater risk of developing blood clots, which could lead to heart attacks. When stressed, the sympathetic system, which is responsible for increasing the heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar to help you perform under stress, gets triggered and the level of catecholamines increases as well.

When blood or energy isn’t flowing or circulating optimally as it could, we call it ‘stagnation.’ The main signs of blood stagnation that show during menstruation are dark blood color, blood clots, or having cramping or throbbing pain in the lower abdomen.

Several studies show that acupuncture helps blood to flow more smoothly, reducing blood clots and the catecholamines level that was increased by stress. This is the main reason why I help anyone who is looking to conceive a baby have regular menstruation first.

I see a good number of patients who tend to have cold hands/feet. Once in a while, those patients have warmer hands and it appeared that their stress level went down on that day. By relieving the stress, blood circulation got better!

Hopefully, this has provided some insights on why reducing one’s stress level is so crucial, including for infertility
